This cryogenic service will process a single full-carrier automotive differential, limited slip, or locker for improved strength, durability, wear resistance, and stress relief. These improvements are achieved during the cryogenic process by converting any remaining austenite - leftover from heat treatment - to martensite, which is responsible for surface hardness. This process also smooths the harness transition from the surface (case) to the core which is especially beneficial for the internal gears. Furthemore, the gear and carrier micro structures are stress relieved to help prevent microfractures and the core microstructure is refined by breaking up large clusters leftover from heat treatment. As a result, the differential carrier and internals will become stronger to handle higher forces and shock loads and the surfaces are made harder to reduce wear and improve service life. For more information on the details of cryogenics, see About Us.
Note: Some air lockers like the ARB Air Locker and Yukon Zip Lockers as well as some electronic lockers like the Eaton E-Locker may require additional processing time as some of the internal components need to be removed prior to cryogenic treatment.
